UK firm gets Gujarat govt gesture to construct Rs 1,900 crore port close Bhavnagar



GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat government on Thursday officially endorsed a proposition of the UK-headquartered Foresight Group and Ahmedabad's Padmanabh Mafatlal gathering to build another port (terminal) contiguous the Bhavnagar port.

The consortium will set up a CNG and different terminals at the site with a venture of Rs 1,900 crore. The proposition was given proper gesture by the official advisory group of Gujarat foundation Development Board (GIDB)

The proposed port is relied upon to have limit of around 6 million metric ton for every annum (MMTPA). The London-based Foresight Group had marked a MoU with Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) during the 2019 version of Vibrant Gujrat Global Summit for improvement of a CNG terminal on the Gujarat coast.

The current port at Bhavnagar is overseen by GMB and handles 3 MMTPA, of which 2.5 MMTPA is Nirma freight, coal, lime stone, shake phosphate. Appointing of the extra port office at Bhavnagar will build limit significantly. GMB will keep on working the southern segment of the Bhavnagar port.

Sources in the interim said that advancement of CNG and different terminals at the north side of Bhavnagar port will require significant adjustment of existing marine framework incorporating digging in port bowl and channel, development of two new lock doors, inland foundation and land improvement.

State government authorities said the consortium has proposed a venture of Rs1,900 crore in two stages with Rs 1,300 crore in the main stage and Rs 600 crore in the second stage through the 'Swiss test' technique. "The state government has affirmed the gathering's proposition. An itemized concession understanding will be marked with the substance in no time by GIDB to enable the organization to begin foundation to build the new port office," an authority said.
